As temperatures drop this winter, millions of children will face freezing conditions that could lead to illness, hunger, and even death.

This year, a perfect storm of Covid, conflict and extreme weather has left children around the world vulnerable to critical levels of hunger and poverty. Now, for children living in hunger-ravaged areas or refugee camps, this winter could be a fight for survival. 

Omar*, 6, was forced to flee to safety from his home in Iraq. He moved with his father to a refugee camp in Bosnia, where they arrived to snow and freezing temperatures.

“The snow came and I felt ill and tired, but my father couldn't let me sit....When I came [to Bosnia], it was very cold, I didn’t have enough vests.”  

Our Save the Children team gave Omar shoes and a jacket for the winter, but so many other children won’t get the support they need to survive.
